So, there we were, the children were choosing their toppings for their weekly ice cream. "I want chocolate syrup!" "I want caramel!" As the screams of excitement get louder, a shy eight year old makes his way to the ice cream and states that he would like chocolate syrup and… "the colored rice." I smiled and said oh honey, those are called sprinkles!
There is never a dull moment when working with children and there are always teachable moments no matter what a child is doing. It's moments like, "the colored rice" situation that makes me love children and the reason why I have spent the last four years at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois working towards my bachelors degree in elementary education.
In May of 2011, I will graduate with my degree and will look forward to becoming a teacher. I'm excited to tackle the new challenges that will come my way and I am eager to learn something new everyday with my future students.
